“Unauthorized” Error for PublishPress Updates

A “Download failed. Unauthorized” error can occur when updating PublishPress plugins. This issue arises because our server cannot confirm if your website is registered in our database. You can see an example of this issue in the screenshot below:

Common reasons for this error include moving your site to a different server or copying it to another domain. To resolve this, you need to re-verify your website.

Here's a simple step-by-step guide to resolve this issue:

  • Access the “License” settings: Navigate to the license settings of your PublishPress plugins. The location may vary for each plugin, but it's typically found in the “Settings” section of the plugin.
  • Deactivate or remove your license: Locate the field where your license key is entered. Deactivate or remove your license from the field.
  • Save the changes: After removing the license key, click the “Save” or “Update” button. This temporarily disconnects your website from our server.
  • Re-enter your license: Add your original license key into the appropriate field within the license settings.
  • Save the license: Once you've entered the license key again, click “Save” or “Update”. This action re-establishes the connection between your website and our server and updates your registration in our database.

By following these steps, you should refresh the connection between your website and our server. After completing this process, updating your PublishPress plugin should proceed smoothly without encountering the “Unauthorized” error.
