WordPress Users Can’t Edit the Details for Media Files

A PublishPress user wrote to us with question:

I have just installed your PublishPress Capabilities plugin, which is working almost perfectly. The problem that I'm having is that my user can upload images but can not edit the Alternative Text, Title, Description and Caption of the image, which I need the user to be able to do. How can I fix this problem?

Allow WooCommerce Users to Accept Payments With pay_for_order

PublishPress customers have had some challenging questions for us. In this tutorial, I'm going to explain the answer to a challenging WooCommerce question that came in recently.

One PublishPress customer has a large segment of their customer base wishing to call up and place an order over the phone. To make this happen, they needed to allow users in the “Shop Manager” role to pay for customers. They installed a user switching plugin so that the Shop Managers could log in as the customers and complete the payment.

Automatically Add Terms to Your WordPress Posts with TaxoPress

If you have a busy site with lots of content, it can be difficult to keep it organized. Normally, WordPress sites use Tags and Categories to organize content. However, if you're publishing 10, 100 or even 1,000's of posts every day, it can be hard to find and add the correct Tags and Categories.

One solution is to use the TaxoPress plugin. TaxoPress has an “Auto Terms” feature that can scan your content and automatically assign terms. These can be existing terms on your site, or entirely new terms chosen by analyzing your posts.

How to Create a WooCommerce Product Editor

This week, a PublishPress customer asked us about an interesting configuration for their WordPress eCommerce site. The customer wanted to create a WooCommerce Product Editor role. Any users in this role would be responsible for editing all the WooCommerce products, but would not have access to other areas of the site.

How to Set Default Access in PublishPress Permissions

Earlier this week, we had a question from a PublishPress user. They are using PublishPress Permissions to control access to specific posts and pages.

In the image below, you can see the metabox from the PublishPress Permissions plugin. For each role, you can choose whether or not they can edit this page. The Author and Contributor roles are set to “No”. The Administrator and Editor roles are set to “Yes”.

How to Hide the Admin Toolbar for WordPress Users

WordPress sites display an admin toolbar for all logged-in users. This is visible on the frontend of your site and also in the WordPress admin area.

This toolbar contains shortcuts to key features in WordPress. A user in the Subscriber role will only see a few features. A user in the Administrator role may see a very busy toolbar, particularly on a site with many plugins. This image below shows my toolbar here at PublishPress.com:

Show Author Content from All WordPress Post Types

On a normal WordPress site, every author automatically gets their own page. So, if my username is “steve”, I'll have my own URL which will look like /author/steve/. This contains all the Posts I've written on the site.

A good example of this can be found on the popular WPTavern.com blog. One of the main authors is called “Sarah” and you'll find her content at /author/sarah/.

Control User Access to Gravity Forms and WooCommerce
