PublishPress Tag Groups 3.0: Welcome to PublishPress!

This post is about a release of PublishPress Tag Groups. This plugin helps you display your WordPress Tags and Categories with stylish layouts and designs.

PublishPress Tag Groups 3.0.0 is the first version of a new plugin that we’re launching for PublishPress users.

This first release is a maintenance and security-focused release that improves reliability for site owners and cleans up the block editor experience. The update removes unnecessary Gutenberg warnings, strengthens public filtering and cache behavior, and refreshes several underlying development dependencies.

What’s improved in this release

  • Cleaner Gutenberg blocks: The Tag Groups blocks no longer show hardcoded editor warnings that could distract users while editing content.
  • Safer public filtering: Public post-filter resource usage is now more tightly bounded to help protect performance.
  • Improved cache handling: Object-cache purges are now better scoped and protected to reduce unnecessary cache disruption.
  • More reliable release packages: Gutenberg assets are now built before release ZIP files are packaged, helping ensure block files are included correctly.

Security and dependency updates

This release also includes a broad set of dependency updates, including packages related to SVG handling, URI parsing, YAML processing, Markdown rendering, proxy middleware, and WordPress build tooling. Several of these updates address known security issues in third-party packages, so updating is recommended.

For developers

  • Build process update: The release build now installs JavaScript dependencies and compiles Gutenberg assets before packaging.
  • Tooling compatibility: WordPress build scripts were updated for compatibility with newer Node environments, including Node 25.
  • Benchmark isolation: Cache benchmark behavior is now more restricted and isolated for safer development workflows.

This post provides an overview of the new features in this release of the PublishPress Tag Groups plugin. The complete changelogs for both Free and Pro versions are available in our Docs area.
