PublishPress Checklists 2.30: Live Counts and Multi-Line Custom Tasks
This post is about a release of the PublishPress Checklists plugin. This is the best way to make sure your content is ready to go live. You can define tasks that must be complete before posts are published.
PublishPress Checklists 2.30 makes checklist requirements easier to understand while you write. Counter-based tasks now show a live count in the editor, and custom checklist tasks can now use multi-line titles for clearer editorial instructions.

Feature highlights
- Live counts for counter tasks: Tasks that measure a number now show the current value as a small badge while authors type.
- Clearer custom task instructions: Custom task titles can now span multiple lines, so longer guidance no longer has to fit into a single text field.
- Updated Pro feature list: The in-plugin Pro teaser now includes the Required Words task alongside the existing Prohibited Words task.
The live count improvement is especially useful for writers who need to meet length-based requirements. Instead of only seeing whether a task has passed or failed, authors can see how close they are to meeting the requirement directly in the editor.
Important fixes and improvements
This release also includes several reliability fixes for both the block editor and Classic Editor, plus improvements to settings saving, accessibility, and compatibility.
- Block editor compatibility: Visual revisions and real-time collaboration now work correctly with the checklist interface.
- Draft saving: Incomplete requirements no longer block Save Draft, Update Draft, or Ctrl+S on WordPress 7.1.
- Classic Editor modal fix: Clicking “No” in the pre-publish modal no longer leaves the editor unclickable.
- Admin fatal error fix: WordPress 6.7 and older no longer hit a fatal error when Yoast SEO is not active.
- Settings saving: Checklist settings are saved more reliably when many post types are enabled.
- Link requirement accuracy: Internal and external link checks now use the site’s real host instead of the admin host.
- Translation loading: Translations now load correctly on WordPress 6.8 and later when the plugin is bundled inside Pro.
- Accessibility and hardening: The editor checklist, settings navigation, and configuration screen are more accessible, with stronger input handling and output escaping.
For developers
- PHP requirement: The minimum supported PHP version is now 8.2, so confirm your hosting environment before updating.
- Library updates: The dev-workspace library was updated to 2.0.4 and the translations library was updated to 1.6.1.
- Code quality: Coding standards checks have been restored so they can block releases again when needed.
- Cleanup improvements: Input handling, term counting, output escaping, and uninstall cleanup have all been hardened.
