PublishPress Authors 4.16 gives WordPress publishers more flexible ways to present author information, led by new grid and table layouts for Author Lists.

New layout options for Author Lists

Author Lists can now be displayed in grid or table layouts, making it easier to choose a format that fits your directory, contributor page, or editorial team listing.

Important fixes and hardening

Version 4.16.0 also addresses issues reported by users and improves how author data is protected and saved.

  • Biographical Info formatting: Block level HTML such as paragraphs, headings, and lists is now preserved when saving authors mapped to WordPress users.
  • Author Box reliability: Concurrent edits are less likely to overwrite Author Box layout settings unexpectedly.
  • User account preservation: Updating email addresses for linked authors now better preserves the associated WordPress user account.
  • Access controls: REST and AJAX author routes now include stronger checks for unauthenticated requests and shortcode actions.
  • Widget stability: A warning caused by null widget values being passed to strip_tags has been fixed.
  • Compatibility: The release includes fixes for Visual Revisions compatibility and author category table creation on new Multisite sites.

Developer improvements

For developers and site maintainers, this release includes several cleanup and maintenance changes behind the scenes.

  • Scoped admin assets: PublishPress Authors admin scripts and styles now load only on Authors screens, reducing unnecessary admin page overhead.
  • SQL preparation cleanup: Multiple SQL preparation warnings were fixed across author categories, core queries, Author Lists, and post author syncing.
  • Dependency maintenance: Several JavaScript and testing dependencies were updated, including security related updates from upstream packages.
  • Release workflow: A shared changelog sync workflow was added for more consistent release publishing.
